When I built the stairs I extended the run and gave them a shallow rise, this makes for a very comfortable and effortless set of stairs.

I laid out and fastened hand picked “bee grade” (quality) redwood deck boards diagonally. I then wrapped the perimeter of each step and deck level with border boards giving each deck and stair tread a unique individual picture frame look.
Besides the detailed elegant appearance this technique also hides all end grain cuts.
